A highly-comfortable and inspiringly designed lodge, Halala Kella Lodge is built atop a hill next to the Halala wall, with sensational views across the Omo River Dam and surrounding landscape.
This exceptional lodge sits on a hill with panoramic views over the Gilgel Gibe III Omo River Dam and surrounding hills. Halala Kella Lodge was built as part of a government tourism initiative in 2024, and has been thoughtfully designed to showcase the history of the Great Halala Wall that sits next to the lodge, along with celebrating the local people of the Dawro.
Accommodation is in spacious “tukul” villas that resemble those of the Dawro, with double, twin and family options. Each villa has been tastefully constructed with local materials, and blends traditional architecture with modern comforts, including air-conditioning, a large flat-screen TV, minibar, WiFi and a comfortable living area with large glass window doors leading out on to a terrace.
The main building houses a museum focusing on the Dawro culture in addition to two bars, a swimming pool, spa and an impressive conical-shaped restaurant built to provide a natural cooling system. One of the highlights is the sunset deck and snack bar, with spectacular 270 degree views over the Omo Dam and distant mountains.
The landscaped grounds feature plenty of artwork, sculptures and water features and native fruit trees, vegetables and herbs have been planted to supply the restaurant. This is a wonderful place to relax and unwind after travelling to many of the highlights of southern Ethiopia.
