High River is an eco-luxe houseboat, a comfortable floating base that moves along the Murray River, revealing new landscapes and wildlife each day.
Purpose-built, High River has six en suite bedrooms, expansive river views, comfortable communal spaces and an undercover top deck with a hot tub. Designed with a strong focus on sustainability, the houseboat uses 52 solar panels and battery storage for quiet, efficient power, and has been thoughtfully designed to minimise its environmental footprint. It offers a wonderfully low-impact way to experience the Murray River, travelling slowly through the landscape while remaining immersed in nature.
Each of its en suite bedrooms can be configured with king or twin beds, while generous windows keep guests connected to the landscape. The beauty of staying aboard is the freedom to unpack once while the houseboat moves between moorings, allowing guests to relax on board while exploring different stretches of the river, from wetlands and forests to creeks and floodplains.
A highlight is the expertise of the local guides, whose intimate knowledge of the Murray's river system, its wetlands and surrounding mallee landscapes, adds enormously to the experience. From identifying birds and other wildlife to interpreting the ecology, conservation and cultural history of the region, their insight brings a deeper understanding of this remarkable environment. Their local knowledge also allows each journey to respond to seasonal conditions and wildlife activity.
Staying on High River is an exclusive and wonderfully immersive experience. Mornings begin with waterbirds outside the windows, while evenings can be spent watching the sunset over the red cliffs, relaxing on deck, or sharing dinner and stories in the lounge. As the houseboat moves along the river, the scenery continually changes, offering a real sense of journey without the need to repeatedly pack and change accommodation.
