Hoanib Valley Camp is an eco-conscious luxury tented camp and joint venture between the local communities and the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, the world’s only Africa-wide giraffe conservation organisation.
Located in the Sesfontein Community Conservancy, the camp is set within a hidden valley, encompassed by jagged mountains just outside the private 500 square kilometre Palmwag Concession.
The property enjoys views of the Hoanib River, and encapsulates the surrounding rugged environment with colours, textures and patterns inspired by the landscape, resident communities and of course, the giraffes. Although some of the land in this area has been designated as ‘concession areas’, tourism is still limited, making a visit to this unspoiled corner a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
The accommodation comprises just six stunning en suite guest tents (one family tent) that pair simplicity with style, and elegant décor found throughout, crafted by local Rundu carpenters and Himba carvers, along with baskets weaved by the people of the Omba Project in Windhoek. Powered completely by solar and with tents built on decks made of a wood, bamboo and 70% recycled-material composite, the camp offers an intimate affair that immerses guests into the wilds of the desert whilst keeping its footprint to a minimum in this delicate ecosystem.
The days here are spent on game drives, nature walks, tracking endangered black rhinos, and searching for desert-adapted elephant, giraffe and lion. Visits can be arranged to visit the local Herero people to learn about their lives in this harsh environment, or alternatively time can be spent relaxing on your private verandah, admiring the remarkable surroundings with a drink in hand.
