An excellent eco-lodge, offering simple but relaxed accommodation, deep into the Llanos, a four hours' drive from Yopal. A wide range of wildlife can be found across the property which can be explored on safari drives, walks, boat trips and horse rides.
Set within the 17,000-hectare Hato La Aurora ranch, the Juan Solito Ecolodge is a simple but rewarding base for discovering the fantastic wildlife of the Llanos. There are seven en suite rooms, which are all screened and each features a mosquito net, plus a fan. The charm of the property is in its unique character and history, having been owned and managed by the Barragan family for almost 50 years. Food is tasty and features plenty of local produce and fresh fruit, and the lodge’s open lounge area includes a tea and coffee station in addition to a fridge stocked with cold beers and soft drinks. There's also a WiFi connection in the dining room area.
The lodge is an ideal base for wildlife enthusiasts with a vast swathe of wetlands, grasslands and gallery forests on its doorstep to explore. The Ariporo River flows next to the lodge and is excellent for boat trips, while safari drives enable further exploration of the surrounding grasslands and wetlands, with rubber boots provided for wildlife walks too.
The lodge offers an excellent wildlife experience, with many large mammal, bird and reptile species regularly seen, but also provides an insight into the Llaneros cowboy culture of this little-visited region of Colombia.
