Situated in the magnificent Khowarib Gorge on the fringes of Kaokoland, Khowarib Lodge occupies a perfect spot on the Hoanib River from where you can explore the remote northwest of Namibia.
Accommodation comprises 14 luxury en suite canvas chalets, built on stilts with a private verandah shaded by large mopane trees and views of the gorge. All are within easy walking distance of the main lodge area and have mains electricity and tea and coffee-making facilities. Two chalets have wheelchair access and special facilities, and all construction has been done with minimal environmental impact in mind. There are also eight campsites for self-drive visitors.
The centrepiece of the complex is a lapa, an immense thatched structure built using local materials in traditional style, with a great view of the surroundings. This contains the reception area, lounge (with WiFi access), bar, dining area and curio shop, plus a verandah for enjoying the panoramas of the gorge and its cliffs.
Activities include tracking desert elephant and rhino (both full day excursions), visiting a Himba village, wildlife walks and drives, birdwatching, and excursions to see rock art. The lodge's guiding staff are locals from Damaraland, and have extensive knowledge of the area.
