This stunning, multi award-winning eco-resort lies only a short flight from Brisbane or a ferry ride from the mainland, blends seamlessly with the sensitive ecosystems of Fraser Island.
Kingfisher Bay Resort is set on the UNESCO World Heritage site of Fraser Island. With an array of accommodation types ranging from basic hotel room to full-blown luxury suite, and from beach house to wilderness lodge, the resort has something for everyone visiting Australia's Nature Coast. Options for eating offer a similar breadth of choice with everything from world-class dining to informal eating, plus a bistro-bar, a watering hole on the jetty, and a lively bush bar.
Rangers conduct a series of mostly complimentary walks and talks, with topics such as: The Island’s Flora and Fauna, Fraser Island’s Dingoes, Mangroves in a Coastal Ecosystem, Astronomy in the Southern Hemisphere, The Island’s European History, Aboriginal Culture, Bush Tucker and Medicines, and The Inner Workings of the EcoResort. A number of short self-guided walks are available, plus some longer itineraries – all of which are detailed in the comprehensive What's On guide.
For a modest charge you can do a guided birdwalk at dawn to see some of the island’s 354 bird species, and as darkness falls, Fraser Island’s natives come out to play under the starry sky. On a ranger-guided night walk you never quite know what you’re going to see, but will learn about the island’s unusual and rare nocturnal wildlife. You may see rare acid frogs and insectivorous bats as they go about their nightly business, sugar gliders as they trapeze through the trees, and identify the animals rustling in the bush.
