Situated just 45 minutes by road from Mfuwe airport and within the boundaries of South Luangwa National Park itself, this award-winning property overlooks two lagoons that are in many respects, wildlife highways.
Mfuwe's airy interior complements the natural surroundings, and its allure is instantly obvious. While away time between safaris on the extensive elevated deck, complete with infinity pool, shaded by the leafy canopies of ebony and mahogany trees, as an endless stream of wildlife keeps you enthralled. Open year round, the lodge is famed for the elephants that walk through the lobby to access the fallen fruits of a wild mango tree in the courtyard between late October and mid-December. Enjoy the on-site library (with WiFi), curio shop and gym or indulge yourself at the BushSpa.
Accommodation consists of 18 thatched en suite chalets perched on the shady banks of the lagoons and feature a sitting area, air-conditioning, panoramic walk-in showers, mosquito net, safe, hairdryer, UK plug sockets for charging devices and secluded covered verandahs that look over the lagoons where wallowing hippo and thirsty game congregate. For a little more privacy, The Director’s House, a private two bedroom home set within the grounds of Mfuwe Lodge, has access to all facilities yet boasts its own fenced garden, pool, firepit and dining area.
This region of the park is famed for its prolific wildlife – giraffe, buffalo, antelope and crocodile are constant visitors to the lagoons. Walking safaris can be arranged upon request (with 24 hours notice at additional cost) for those aged 12 and over, but most outings are early morning or late afternoon wildlife drives, led by a team of experienced guides. These allow guests to explore as much of the prolific Luangwa Valley as possible, when the wildlife is at its most active. Community visits may also be arranged.
Mfuwe Lodge also has a number of smaller sister properties, intimate bushcamps that are located deeper within the southern reaches of the park. Choose from Kuyenda, Chamilandu, Chindeni, Bilimungwe, Kapamba and Zungulila, or indeed a combination of bushcamps, to experience more of stunning South Luangwa National Park.
