Ruckomechi Camp is situated on the western boundary of Mana Pools National Park, and has wonderful views across the Zambezi to the mountainous escarpment of the Great Rift Valley.
Ten spacious en suite tents include a honeymoon suite and a family room, all of which overlook the river. Each tent has both indoor and outdoor showers heated by solar geysers, and the camp boasts an outdoor ‘bath-with-a-view’ in a secluded, scenic spot. A central dining, bar, library and main area complete the facilities. There is one deck with an infinity pool and a separate, inviting, cushion-strewn deck for sundowners and stargazing.
Ruckomechi offers a full programme of early morning walks with an experienced guide, morning and afternoon safaris in open four-wheel-drive vehicles, night drives, wildlife trips on motorised pontoons, and canoeing on the river.
Mana Pools is renowned for large numbers of elephant, buffalo, hippo and eland, especially in winter when they concentrate along the river. Predators such as lion, leopard and wild dog are all found here. Birdlife is superb, with both mopane woodland and riverine species, and local specials such as collared palm-thrush, racket-tailed roller, purple-banded sunbird and black-throated wattle-eye.
