Takwela is built on the confluence of the Mwlaeshi and Luangwa Rivers in the remote North Luangwa National Park. The idyllic off-the-beaten-track location offers supreme exclusivity whilst you encounter abundant wildlife, both on foot and by vehicle.

The camp is accessed by light aircraft from South Luangwa and has virtually private access to over 50 kilometres of prime Luangwa River frontage. Takwela is one of the newest camps in the Luangwa Valley, opening in July 2019. Comprised of just four en suite chalets, sourced from local materials, Takwela offers accommodation to a maximum of only eight guests.

The unfenced nature of the camp allows for wildlife to pass by your tent; as you lie in bed at night, listen to the gently grazing hippo which emerge from the adjacent river and perhaps the whispered communications of a passing herd of elephant. Takwela makes for an excellent combination with stays at North Luangwa’s Mwaleshi Camp, and Tafika in South Luangwa.
