This comfortable lodge is the ideal base from which to enjoy Ladakh's scenery and wildlife, which includes snow leopard, Asiatic ibex, Himalayan red fox, bharal and Tibetan partridge.
The lodge is built of stone using traditional materials and methods. It has ten bedrooms and a large communal lounge and dining room. After recent upgrades, all bedrooms have electric radiators, en suite bathrooms with western-style facilities, and running hot water, including showers (24 hours). Each room has either two single or one large double bed, supplied with thick duvets, extra blankets and hot water bottles. Flasks for hot drinks are also provided and filled daily. The charming, well-furnished lounge offers great views across the valley, where it's frequently possible to spot wildlife. On most evenings various documentaries about the local wildlife and culture are shown.
The friendly and attentive staff, the majorities of whom come from the local community, go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. An assortment of hot drinks and snacks is always available to help alleviate the cold and keep guests comfortable.
The lodge not only provides very comfortable accommodation, but also has the benefit of channelling money directly into local hands, strengthening the links between tourism, local communities and conservation of the area's population of snow leopards.
