Varty Camp is Londolozi’s original safari camp and the symbolic heart of the Londolozi Private Game Reserve, offering a family friendly atmosphere that truly represents the camp’s rich familial heritage.

The main lodge consists of a gorgeous lounge with high thatched ceilings, beautifully crafted furnishings, cosy fireplace, and walls adorned with historic images and artefacts. The lounge opens out onto the expansive viewing deck, which has been built around the original jackalberry tree where Charles Boyd Varty and Frank Unger first set up camp in 1926.

Sumptuous meals can be enjoyed from the deck overlooking the majestic Sand River, where various species can often be observed throughout the day. The communal spaces also include a dining room, reception, small library with computers, gift shop, gym, yoga room, swimming pool with sun loungers, and a boma where dinners are served under the stars when weather permits.

The accommodation at Varty Camp consists of ten timber-and-thatch guest chalets on wooden stilts, two of which are superior, decorated in typical Londolozi fashion with white, neutral and woody tones, which provide a sense of safari opulence. Each of the en suite chalets benefit from fantastic vistas of the Sand River from the private verandah with outdoor shower, sala and plunge pool overlooking the riverine woodland below.

The open-plan interior features either a king-sized or twin beds along with modern amenities such as air-conditioning, complimentary WiFi, minibar, safe and hairdryer. Some of the chalets are inter-leading, providing a perfect option for families.

Children are welcome from the age of six with carefully tailored child-friendly safari activities offered, allowing them to often hop out of the vehicle and utilise their senses as the guides present them with different smells and textures from the bush. When back at camp, the designated Cub’s Den children’s programme provides a wealth of activities to keep them entertained, from tree climbing to pizza making, arts and crafts, to archery and much more.

As the largest camp and heart of Londolozi, many of the guest facilities can be found close to Varty Camp. A standout feature at Londolozi is the photographic studio, equipped with iMacs, photo editing software and printing facilities to enable guests to truly dive into their camera roll between safaris and return home with images ready to be framed (use of the studio must be booked in advance).

The restorative Healing House is also located nearby where guests can enjoy a range of exceptional spa treatments, carried out by experienced therapists.
