The power, strength and beauty of the distinctive breed of Camargue white horses is on full display in this action-packed, immersive photography experience in Southern France.

Based in the heart of the Camargue wetlands, we join professional wildlife photographer Chris Weston for five separate photographic sessions with the white horses over three days, guided by the highly experienced gardians from a traditional, family-run ranch. From the herd galloping in the shallow salt marshes, to stallions running powerfully through the Mediterranean surf and intimate close-up portraits of the horses, there are various photographic opportunities on offer here.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Montpellier & transfer to the Camargue

Today we depart the UK on flights to Montpellier. On arrival we transfer to our accommodation near the scenic French town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in the Camargue.

    Accommodation: Cacharel Hotel, 3-nights

  2. Days 2-3 : Photography sessions with the white horses of the Camargue

Over the course of the next two days we have photographic sessions in the morning and afternoon with the white horses of the Camargue. These sessions will take place at different locations in the Parc Naturel Régional de Camargue and the marshes of the Rhône delta providing opportunities to photograph the horses in different environments.

The Camargue horse is an ancient breed, indigenous to the Camargue region. It’s one of the oldest breeds in the world and for centuries these horses have lived wild in the harsh environment of the Camargue wetlands. During our photographic session, there are multiple opportunities to capture images of the horses in powerful gallops through cascading water, as the gardians “wrangle” them in the shallow marshes. In between runs you can create stunning portraits and capture candid moments as the horses catch their breath. Throughout our time here Chris Weston will be on hand to provide guidance and tuition helping you to get the most out of your images.

  3. Day 4: Final photography session & return to UK

This morning we have our final sessions with the famous white horses of the Camargue and last chance to add images to our portfolios. Afterwards, it’s time to return to the airport at Montpellier and fly back to the UK.
