News from Conservation South Luangwa
A cause close to our hearts, we are proud to support Conservation South Luangwa (CSL) who, alongside the community, are dedicated in protecting the wildlife and habitats of South Luangwa.
Every trip booked with Wildlife Worldwide includes a small conservation contribution which is used to support various charities in vital work to protect wildlife. We are delighted to have recently donated £3,000 to Conservation South Luangwa, one of our key partners and a charity of which Founder Chris Breen is a Trustee. This donation has been generously matched, meaning the total amount is an astounding £6,000.
Once again, we have chosen to use this money to help their K9 Detection Dog unit operations. Their work ranges from routine searches at roadblocks and villages stopping wildlife trafficking and intelligence operations.

“Thank you, Wildlife Worldwide! It is donors such as yourselves that enable us to continue the important work we are doing now and ensure our dogs are healthy and fit to do their work. This support helps us carry out our daily anti-poaching operations and ensure the dogs always have food, toys and medicines. We can also train with international K9 trainers to ensure we are always keeping up to date with techniques. Thank you!” – Godfrey, Head of K9 Unit.
The K9 team are incredibly successful, and in 2021 37% of total wildlife crime arrests made were thanks to CSL. Last year they were also able to complete over 250 operations which consisted of over 100 roadblocks, over 50 building searches and a remarkable 18,000 vehicle searches! As a result, they confiscated over $10,000 of wildlife contraband which also led to arrests. Our donation of £3,000 will pay for approximately 16 K9 operations, and as the charity aims for over 250 a year, this money will directly help them reach their aim whilst reducing wildlife crime.
In 2020 our team participated in Ride4Rangers, raising an incredible £18,404 for CSL that was also match-funded, meaning a total of £36,808 was donated, helping rangers continue their work whilst tourists were unable to travel.
If you would like to get involved, there are currently four K9 dogs, and for $200 a year you can sponsor a K9 dog! Those who choose to sponsor a dog will be sent a certificate and a quarterly newsletter to keep up to date.
CSL also shared the fantastic news that in 2021 no wild dogs were de-snared and that this was the first time in 15 years! This is an excellent step for wildlife conservation, and we hope the continued efforts of CSL and other wildlife charities will reveal more good news stories in the years to come.
Thank you to all our clients who have donated and booked your holiday with us. It's because of you that we can support amazing charities like CSL.
