He's a mammal specialist with an excellent knowledge on the shy and elusive nocturnal mammals and carnivores of the island. Gayan is also a passionate birder who has a keen eye and an ear for the island’s endemic species. When not leading tours, Gayan engages in wildlife research work, where he's worked on projects in the Knuckles mountain range on endemic lizards and in the Sinharaja forest reserve on amphibians and birds. He's also a very active member of the Young Zoologist Association of Sri Lanka.
