Martin lived in Stanley, the Falkland Islands, for just over two years before returning to the UK in 2021. During his time here, Martin volunteered with Falklands Conservation, where he helped with the Falkland Islands Seabird Monitoring Program (FISMP), in particular counting seabirds and ringing black-browed albatross. Closer to home, Martin has been involved in colour ringing projects for barnacle geese both in the UK and Spitsbergen.
The Falkland Islands are also where Martin started his career as a guide, and he enjoys sharing his knowledge of the islands and their wildlife, which he continues to do to this day. Martin has also guided in the Arctic, Antarctica, and some of the Subantarctic Islands, in addition to some of the least-visited islands in the Atlantic, such as Tristan da Cunha.
