Dartmoor National Park is one of the wildest corners of southern England and is home to exceptional wildlife, including breeding ring ouzel, dipper, redstart and whinchat, and many rare invertebrates.

Most famous for its heather-clad moors and rugged tors, Dartmoor is a diverse landscape which includes ancient habitats for many scarce species. Radiating out from the central moors are deep river valleys, cloaked in oak woodland, which are the haunt of grey wagtail, salmon, sea trout, wood warbler and otter. Lower down, the valleys give way to a historic landscape of walled farmland and grassland, which supports many rare plants and insects, notably a range of specialist butterflies.
