Mongolia’s vast Eastern Steppes are one of the last great wildernesses on Earth and are the realm of huge ungulate herds, raptors and one of the most elusive felines in the world, Pallas’s cat.

The Eastern Steppes of Mongolia cover effectively half of the country by stretching all the way from the foothills of the Khyangan Mountains to the east border with China. These expansive grasslands support a host of wildlife, including more than 20 mammals and over 150 bird species. There is also an undisturbed dry steppe ecosystem that is home to a thriving population of Pallas’s cats, and UNESCO has designated the Eastern Mongolian Steppes a World Heritage Site.
