The forests of Kainuu are home to a plethora of boreal species and there are few better places in the world to encounter and photograph this fascinating wildlife from either hides or luxury cabins.
The remote region of Kainuu is sparsely populated and dominated by pristine nature, more specifically great swathes of taiga forest, shimmering lakes and undisturbed wetlands. This part of Finland is characterised so much by these forest that its flags depicts the pine trees that grow here. There are a variety of species that can be observed here including brown bear, great-spotted woodpecker, red squirrel, golden eagle, Ural owl and even Eurasian wolf if you are lucky.
There are a couple of options for watching the wildlife of Kainuu, the most common being from purpose-built. However, it is also possible to view wildlife from your own luxury cabin set the heart of the boreal forests.
