Kariega Reserve is a swathe of pristine habitat on the Eastern Cape to the east of Port Elizabeth, which is home to both iconic and elusive wildlife, including lion, elephant, aardvark, wild dog, caracal and black rhino.
Kariega Reserve is a family-owned and private game reserve in South Africa stretching across 11,500 hectares of wilderness in the Eastern Cape. The reserve is easily reached just a 10-minute drive from the sleepy coastal village of Kenton-on-Sea, and a mere 140 kilometres east of Port Elizabeth. This reserve offers wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities of several iconic African species including black rhino, lion, giraffe and African elephant, as well as various other intriguing animals such as caracal, leopard tortoise and nyala. The primary option for wildlife watching in Kariega is by game drive. However, you can complement your safari experience with a boat cruise down the Kariega River, sighting abundant river birdlife, or take a kayak onto the river for a quiet paddle.
