An atmospheric cloud forest ecosystem within easy reach of the city of Pereira, Santa Rosa is home to rare species such as mountain tapir, mineral-rich thermal pools and beautiful waterfalls.

Santa Rosa de Cabal is a protected cloud‑forest area in the Andean mountains, established to safeguard the region’s exceptional biodiversity. As part of the Los Nevados National Natural Park, it's best known for its natural thermal hot springs and its impressive 95‑metre waterfall. The reserve is an outstanding destination for Andean birdlife, with species ranging from colourful tanagers to motmots and trogons.

What makes Santa Rosa truly unique, however, is its mammal diversity. The higher elevations support a healthy population of mountain tapir, and both mountain paca and pacarana occur here as well. In the lower forest, visitors often encounter the recently described olinguito, along with kinkajou, stump‑tailed porcupine, and red howler monkey.
