Journey to Tonga’s Vava’u islands for a unique opportunity to swim with humpback whales. Stay in a boutique retreat and experience daily encounters with these gentle giants, their playful calves, and beautifully haunting songs.

Every year, between June and October, the warm waters of Tonga become a sanctuary for migrating humpback whales arriving from Antarctica. Here, they mate, give birth, and nurture their young, offering a rare opportunity to witness intimate wildlife encounters—from mothers nursing their calves to the playful antics of curious juveniles.

From the comfort of a boutique resort on Kapa Island, you set out each day on boat excursions, and slip into the sea for intimate encounters with these magnificent creatures. Watching mothers nurse their young and calves curiously approach is a truly humbling experience, made even more magical by the haunting melodies of whale song.

Beyond the whales, Vava’u’s crystal-clear waters offer an underwater world teeming with life. Snorkel above vibrant coral reefs just steps from your resort, or kayak to Swallows Cave, where shafts of sunlight illuminate the cave’s brilliant blue depths.

Between adventures, unwind at your peaceful island retreat, where private bungalows offer ocean views and the beachside restaurant serves excellent cuisine.
