Overlooking the Atlantic, Halifax, the provincial capital of Nova Scotia, is jam-packed full of historical monuments, museums and parks with the waterfront at its beating heart.

Halifax’s position on the Atlantic has long defined its character as a strategic, military city with a seafaring tradition. It boasts a wonderful four kilometre long seafront boardwalk, and its waterfront warehouses have been converted into eateries celebrating epicurean delights, which sit comfortably alongside microbreweries, shops and galleries. Visit Citadel Hill, museums galore, Pier 21 (Canada’s Ellis Island) and graves commemorating victims of the Titanic disaster in 1912.

Whale watching in Halifax. Nova Scotia

Whale watching trips operate during the summer months and if you have a car, drive along the coast to Peggy’s Cove with its much loved (and photographed!) lighthouse and Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site established to preserve its colourful colonial harbour.
