This rapidly developing city is very much the beating heart of Zambia as it acts as the political, economic, transport and cultural centre of this fascinating country.

Lusaka started a life as a village and was named after the headman of the initial settlement. The city began to take shape as it was expanded by colonial settlers with the construction of the railway being the major catalyst. Nowadays, the vibrant market stalls selling an assortment of vegetables and dried fish, the aging tree-lined boulevards and the general pace of life, create an essentially African atmosphere that other more ‘touristy’ cities on the continent lack.
