Located within the Kruger National Park on the private Imbali Concession, bordering the northern Sabi Sands and Manyeleti Game Reserves, Hamiltons Tented Camp occupies a prime position for wildlife viewing.
Named after Colonel James Stevenson-Hamilton, Kruger National Park’s first warden and an instrumental figure in the park’s establishment, the camp maintains a timeless feel, reminiscent of Stevenson-Hamilton’s era, exuding safari opulence and a true ‘Out of Africa’ style. The main area of the camp consists of covered lounges with luxurious tented ceilings, a wooden deck overlooking the river and a swimming pool. Raised timber walkways link the six guest suites to the communal spaces amongst ancient jackalberry trees, along the banks of the seasonal N’waswitsontso River.
Each of the elevated suites provides uninterrupted privacy with plunge pools built into the teak deck overlooking the river, and outdoor sala featuring leather couch, hospitality cabinet, minibar and tea and coffee-making facilities, creating the perfect sanctuary to unwind. The interiors are uncompromisingly elegant, decorated with old brass light switches, steamer trunks with vintage labels, and sepia-stained photographs to transport guests through time, whilst still enjoying modern amenities such as electricity and air-conditioning. En suite bathrooms consist of a double wash basin with large mirror, flush toilet, slipper bath and separate rain shower.
Dining at Hamiltons is an experience in itself, once again transporting guests back in time with intricate details from fine crystal wine glasses to pewter silver water jugs, and butlers wearing traditionally styled uniforms, who are trained to anticipate a guest's every need. Meals are lovingly prepared by the chefs with fresh local produce and weather permitting, served on the deck, overlooking the river and enjoying the bushveld surroundings.
Activities consist of morning and afternoon game drives in open vehicles exploring the basalt plains of the Satara region, optional bush walks (if booked in advance for an additional cost), and massage treatments either in guest rooms or on their private deck (at an additional cost). Between or in replacement of safaris, guests staying at Hamiltons Tented Camp are welcome to take their own vehicle or hire car into the Kruger National Park for a self-drive safari if they wish, before returning for the afternoon game drive or in the evening when the park closes to visitors.
