Situated within the private Imbali Concession along the Mluwati River in the heart of the Kruger National Park, Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge offers an intimate stay with fantastic game viewing.
The name ‘Hoyo Hoyo’ means ‘welcome’ in Tsonga, and the lodge has been constructed in a typical Shangaan style that seamlessly blends in the surrounding environment. Encapsulated by lush leadwood trees and comprised of conical thatched structures whose peaks protrude from the tree-line, the property is set on an ancient elephant path and overlooks the Mluwati’s dry riverbed and a waterhole.
The megaherbivores regularly frequent the lodge and can often be observed from the relaxing spaces on the elevated deck, or from the swimming pool looking out into the bush. Celebrating African style, the lodge is furnished with inviting burnt orange and earthy tones, symbolic of the warm and welcoming ambience felt throughout.
Guests are accommodated across six air-conditioned rondavel suites, maintaining the colour palette found in the communal areas, with traditional ornaments and little embellishments on lamps, door handles and mirrors to maintain the Tsonga influence, bringing the culture to life. A private deck provides a spot to relax and peruse the landscape for any wildlife that may decide to pass by, and the rooms are also equipped with an indulgent stone bathtub and outdoor shower.
Delicious meals are crafted by the lodge’s talented chef, including local specialities, light salads and homemade baked goods. 3-course dinners are served around the open-air fire under the remarkable night sky (weather permitting) as the enchanting sounds of the bush provide the perfect orchestral background.
Activities consist of morning and afternoon game drives in open vehicles exploring the expansive Imbali Concession, optional bush walks (if booked in advance for an additional cost) and massage treatments either in guest rooms or on their private deck (at an additional cost). Between or in replacement of safaris, guests staying at Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge are welcome to take their own vehicle or hire car into the Kruger National Park for a self-drive safari if they wish, before returning for the afternoon game drive or in the evening when the park closes to visitors.
