Positioned on a cliff with uninterrupted views of the Klaserie River and surrounding plains, this beautiful luxury safari camp takes up a prime position in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.
Klaserie Drift Misava Safari Camp is one of the oldest camps in the Klaserie. Previously known as Angela’s, the property was purchased in 1936 by Edwin Crookes and named after his daughter, Angela. In 1997, the property was purchased by the current owner where it was run as a self-catering camp for locals before a significant renovation in 2019, to become the spectacular and fully inclusive safari camp it is today.
The standout feature of the camp is undeniably its elevated location and the contemporary wooden deck with infinity pool, sun loungers and dining area, providing the perfect spot to admire the encompassing bushveld setting with a cocktail from the open-air bar. Scan the riverbanks for elephants and buffalo coming to quench their thirst.
An additional dining area can be found closer to the main lodge, leading to the boma area, where guests can enjoy a drink and fireside chat before or after dinner. The interior consists of a spacious and stylish lounge with satellite TV and library with warm, inviting tones, ideal for curling up with a book during cool winter nights.
The camp features just eight stylish and elegant suites, four with garden view (two interconnect for families), two with a river view, and two opulent honeymoon suites, also enjoying panoramic vistas of the Klaserie River with private plunge pools and a rooftop star bed for romantic evenings gazing up at the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere, before drifting off to sleep.
Each of the air-conditioned rooms is decorated with earthy tones to match the bush setting, and thatched roofs continue the natural aesthetic, maintaining an African style with a modern approach. The garden view rondavels are a throwback to the original camp structures, now equipped with en suite facilities and a private deck where guests can practice yoga using the mats provided. The river view suites offer ultimate seclusion and privacy, where couples can find time to relax and connect with a private deck and both indoor and outdoor showers.
The culinary experience is a delightful one, with African style cuisine expertly prepared with locally-sourced ingredients, many of which come from the property’s greenhouse. The chefs bring their own flair to mealtimes with their years of knowledge and experience of working in top restaurants, both domestically and internationally.
Activities consist of morning and afternoon game drives, with the property able to cater for special interests such as photographic and birding safaris when booking a private vehicle. The camp also offers designated yoga and creative writing experiences when booking on an exclusive-use basis. Bush walks are also available if booked in advance.
Children are accommodated from the age of six with a dedicated ‘Kidz Club’ led by the guiding team to provide fun and educational nature-based activities in the heart of the bush, whilst the parents relax with a treatment in their suite from the mobile spa.
