An oasis of tranquillity, Simbavati Camp George ensures a revitalising stay in the marvellous Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, with modern comforts and incredible hospitality paired with fantastic guiding and game viewing.

Part of the Simbavati Collection, the luxurious Camp George opened its doors in 1988 and takes its name from its founder, George Huysamer, who originally utilised the property as a family retreat. The property holds historic significance as a location where a number of ‘bush meetings’ took place with senior government officials that led to the release of Nelson Mandela in 1990. Over time, the camp has evolved into the magnificent eight suite camp that it is today, with remarkable landscaped gardens adorned with magnificent fever trees and rare South African cycads.

The air-conditioned luxury suites each have a private deck overlooking a dry riverbed, with outdoor showers enjoying views of the surrounding bush as wildlife passes by. The interiors are a picture of safari elegance, furnished with indigenous wood furniture and a king-sized bed. The unique headboards by artist Dianne Christian depicting a different animal in each room are a standout feature, coupled with the contemporary artwork throughout the camp. En suite bathrooms are incorporated into the open-plan design, and are complete with decadent freestanding oval bathtub, indoor shower, double vanity unit and separate flush toilet. Two of the units are inter-leading to provide a perfect space for families.

The camp is protected by an electric fence and takes advantage of this by offering guests romantic picnics in the well-maintained gardens as they watch the various comings and goings at the waterhole, whilst also providing a safe place for children to play. The pool, gym and an indulgent spa offer places to relax and unwind between game drives or bush walks, the latter of which can be organised on request.

Meals are served either in the main lodge or, weather permitting, around the fire in the outdoor boma, intimately lit up with lanterns and uninterrupted views of the countless stars illuminating the night sky. Top quality imaginative cuisine is prepared with fresh seasonal produce, and a varied selection of fine South African wines are stocked to find the perfect pairing.
