Taking a closer perspective on the flora and fauna of the south of England, we discover fascinating foliage, insects and fungi, whilst learning new techniques and creative processes in macro photography.
With plentiful and often sessile subjects to photograph, you will have the opportunity to get creative with your macro photography. Tuition from your leader will help you to explore your camera settings to capture the colours and textures or interesting subjects.
There are a number of locations to choose from around Surrey and Hampshire and the location of each workshop will depend on the abundance of insects and fungi at the time. We have two exciting options, where you can photograph contrasting landscapes and subjects in either Surrey or the New Forest.
In Surrey, spring sees an abundance of plants and flowers that are particularly popular with insects such as bees, wasps, butterflies and bush crickets with plant species including clover, thistle and bramble. In May & June orchids are also prominent including fly, yellow bird’s nest, greater butterfly, pyramidal, common spotted and chalk fragrant.
In Hampshire's New Forest, autumn brings an array of foliage, bizarre and intricate fungi and lichen species and seasonal colours and patterns.
This small group workshop is a great opportunity to develop your skills and get creative with fascinating subjects whilst being in a spectacular location.

Day 1:
Macro photography day
How often do you stop and look at the tiny things living in the bushes you're passing? The aim of this workshop is to do just that, whilst also developing techniques to photograph them creatively.
We meet our leader and the other group members on arrival before heading off into the surroundings to begin searching for photographic subjects.
In Surrey, our focus is the insects, spiders and butterflies along the hedgerows, as well as the wildflowers growing in the meadows.
In the New Forest, we focus on the logs and undergrowth on the forest floor to investigate what might be growing or sheltering.
Macro photography gives us the opportunity to capture the small but fascinating flora and fauna creatively and you can achieve some lovely images. You will be able to practice your techniques, learn new ones and capture some great images for your portfolio, hopefully leaving feeling more confident about macro photography.
