Introducing a Brand New Photography Tour to Zambia

Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park is known across the globe for being one of the world’s finest protected wilderness areas and home to a staggering diversity of wildlife. Expert wildlife photographer and team member, Bret Charman, has been leading our dedicated photographic safaris for many years. Now he will take the helm of our exciting new photographic safari to Zambia’s Kafue and Lower Zambezi National Parks.

After leaving university, I was lucky enough to live and work in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, where I quickly fell in love with the country’s exceptional wildlife and vast tracts of wilderness. Over the past five years, it has been incredible to lead numerous trips to South Luangwa for Wildlife Worldwide, but I know this country has so much more to offer. With that in mind, I'm delighted to be leading our new Kafue & Lower Zambezi Photo Safari.

Elephant herd in Kafue National Park, Zambia A dedicated photo safari, this trip has been designed for those who want to see and photograph more of Zambia’s pristine wilderness areas and the wildlife that calls them home. We hope to photograph a wealth of species such as lion, leopard, African wild dog, elephants and many members of the antelope family. The diversity of bird species in both parks is remarkable, and the differences between the avifauna the various biomes support will become apparent.

Lion in Kafue National Park, Zambia Each of the national parks we visit on this itinerary plays host to its own cast of wildlife. At each location we stay at a single camp, enabling us to maximise our time in the field and escape the crowds. The opportunity to enjoy exquisite sightings without anybody else around is what makes this Zambia trip so alluring.

Kafue National Park in Zambia. Kafue National Park, like South Luangwa National Park, is based around its namesake, the river. Our camp, Musekese, sits directly on the riverfront. There we can enjoy world-class game viewing by vehicle, but it's also possible to get out on the water to photograph a number of iconic African species - leopard being a particular highlight.

Leopard in Kafue National Park, Zambia. The landscapes in Kafue are quite different from South Luangwa, which means we have an opportunity to capture a diverse range of images. This area of Kafue is particularly peaceful, as it's away from most of the lodges and camps, allowing us to enjoy the majority of our sightings without being disturbed. With a mix of thick bush and open meadow-like areas, it's possible to capture some stunning photographs in the now golden grasses.

Cheetah in Kafue National Park, Zambia Our next stop is in Lower Zambezi National Park. Once again, each of the habitats have their own distinct feel and appearance. The large open woodlands of the Zambezi Valley provide a magical backdrop for our photographs of the area’s sought-after species. We hope to photograph leopards, lions, elephants and African wild dogs in some of Africa’s most scenic forests.

Wild dog in Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia Just as we did in Kafue, we can head out on the water and photograph the wildlife from an entirely different perspective. The soft morning and evening light provides the world around us with an ethereal feel. When this sublime light is combined with a memorable encounter with a big cat, elephant or African wild dog, and the calls of the forest birds sound through the canopy, you will be truly immersed in this ancient wilderness.

So if you're keen to discover and photograph Zambia’s wild wonders, please join me for a wildlife photography safari like no other.
