Ishmael “Khumo” Khumoegang

Ishmael (known as Khumo) grew up immersed in wildlife, and from a young age, he loved being out in the bush. This early fascination led him to eventually pursue a career in wildlife guiding.

Khumo was raised in a village on the western side of the Okavango Panhandle, before moving to the tourism hub of Maun. Being surrounded by the beauty of nature everyday inspired him to become a safari guide. He has always been mesmerised by the diverse plant life, birds and animals that inhabit the Okavango Delta. The environment has shaped and sparked a deep passion for nature, encouraging his desire to showcase what the Delta offers.

Khumo qualified as a guide in 2015, and has guided in a variety of areas of Botswana, conducting guided walks, mokoro poling, boat cruises and game drives. When not guiding in the bush, Khumo can be found with his daughter and son who live in Maun too.

Khumo’s favourite animal is the caracal, as they're beautiful and very smart with great hunting skills. His favourite bird is the saddle-billed stork, as its attractive and striking colours make it a very photogenic subject!
