Situated on the beautiful shores of Kachemak Bay on the Kenai Peninsula, Homer is just over 300 kilometres south-west of Anchorage and is the perfect gateway to the remote Lake Clark National Park.

A 4.5-hour drive (or short flight) from Anchorage brings you to the tail end of the Sterling Highway, hence the town affectionately being known as 'the end of the road'. Predominantly a fishing port, with the principle catch being halibut, it's also a renowned arts and foodie centre over the summer months.

Wildlife near Homer

Explore nearby Kachemak Bay State Park with its trails and coves ideal for paddling, or beachcomb Homer's 7-kilomere-long spit, searching for marine, terrestrial and avian life that may include whales, sea otters, moose, bald eagles and many other birds. In fact, the town hosts the annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival every May to celebrate passing migrants. Increasingly, Homer is the access point for bear watching adventures in Lake Clark National Park, Katmai National Park and Hallo Bay.
