An excellent option for those seeking some of South Africa’s more elusive mammals, Khoisan Karoo Conservancy offers a chance of an exciting range of nocturnal mammals including aardvarks and regionally localised birds.

Traditionally used for sheep farming, Khoisan Karoo Conservancy is increasingly being managed for ecotourism, and the long-term plan is to move away from farming and expand the reserve. In addition to holding a variety of antelope species and the only hippo in the Karoo, the reserve is most notable for its exceptional opportunities to view nocturnal mammals including aardvark, aardwolf and with luck, black-footed cat.
