Trusmadi Forest Reserve is an important protected area, supporting some of Borneo’s rarest plant types. It's particularly renowned for its endemic pitcher plants, alongside a host of rare birds and mammals.

Alongside the exotic flora, Trusmadi's birdlife is exceptional, and is home to a number of rarely-seen species found here. A few notable species include the Bulwer’s pitta, Bornean banded pitta, crested partridge and long-tailed broadbill.

There's an equally impressive array of mammals living in the forest, but they're not easy to observe. It's possible to see pig-tailed macaque, Malay palm civet, yellow-throated marten and southern red muntjac in the reserve. There's also a wealth of amphibians and reptiles to be found, alongside a host of invertebrates.
