Positioned on central Vietnam’s scenic coastline, roughly halfway between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the city of Da Nang combines beautiful sandy beaches with easy access to stunning forest-clad mountains.
Da Nang moves at a refreshingly relaxed pace compared to many of Vietnam’s larger cities, making it an appealing base for exploration. Within the city, architectural landmarks such as the imaginative Dragon Bridge and the distinctive pink façade of Da Nang Cathedral add character, but the real appeal lies in the diversity of landscapes and wildlife within easy reach.
Along the shoreline, the palm-lined golden sands of My Khe Beach offer a peaceful retreat, while further north, Lang Co Beach stretches along a narrow peninsula, flanked by a tranquil lagoon on one side and the open sea on the other. Da Nang’s wider coastline extends for around 30 kilometres and is known for its calm, inviting waters well suited to swimming, fishing, and water sports.
Beyond the beaches, Da Nang provides easy access to some of central Vietnam’s most rewarding landscapes and cultural sights. The lantern-lit streets of Hoi An and the ancient ruins of My Son Sanctuary lie within easy reach, while inland the forested peaks of the Bà Nà Hills and the winding Hai Van Pass reveal sweeping views over Da Nang Bay.
For wildlife, the nearby Son Tra Nature Reserve is a highlight. This protected peninsula is home to the rare and beautiful red-shanked douc langur, one of Vietnam’s most striking primates, offering a memorable glimpse into Vietnam’s natural diversity just moments from the city.
