Ecuador’s capital stands at an altitude of 2,850 metres on the slopes of the active volcano of Pichincha, just 25 kilometres south of the equator.

Founded in the 16th century on the ruins of an Inca city, the old town of Quito is extremely atmospheric.

Most itineraries will allow you time to explore Quito, where you can visit the Mitad del Mundo monument on the equator, go horse riding, white-water rafting, visit an Indian market, or simply take a city tour.
