Located in one of the wildest and least visited parts of the Southern Pantanal, this friendly lodge and working farm offers an outstanding base for exploring the wildlife-rich region.
A charming family-owned and run lodge, nestled within one of the remotest parts of the Pantanal, Baia das Pedras offers just seven rooms, ensuring an intimate stay. There are four premium suites and three original suites, as well as a chalet for guide accommodation. The rooms are all en suite and have been fully renovated and, although simple, offer a homely atmosphere. There are plenty of areas to relax with a small lounge and TV room, hammocks, bar and dining room where delicious local produce is served.
The lodge offers a variety of excursions from game drives, wildlife walks, horse riding, rowing on the seasonal lakes and fishing. It also hosts research teams studying the rare giant armadillo and tapir.
Although there's no river at the property, there are a wide range of habitats to explore with seasonal lakes and marshes, gallery woodlands and open dry savannah. Giant anteaters are particularly abundant and a feature of the lodge. The property is also known to support good populations of armadillos with six banded, nine-banded, southern naked tailed and giant armadillos, although the latter is only rarely seen. The area is also home to many peccaries, pampas, marsh and brocket deer, tapirs, coatis, southern tamanduas and puma, ocelot and tayra, while birdlife includes blue and yellow and hyacinth macaws, great potoo and great horned owls.
