Mull’s sea-lochs, mountains, coast and machair are home to a diverse flora and fauna, while the surrounding sea harbours a rich marine life. It also boasts lovely scenery and surrounding islands within easy reach.
Mull is the third largest of the Hebridean islands and boasts almost 500km of beautiful coastline. It is also home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, making it a very rewarding destination for the keen naturalist.
Mull is one of the best places in the UK to see otters, most reliably encountered in sea-lochs where great northern and red-throated divers can also be seen.
Another draw for birdwatchers are the healthy populations of both golden and white-tailed eagles, as well as other raptors including short-eared owl and hen harrier. Red deer are ubiquitous across the island, while along the coastline grey and harbour seals can be seen hauled up on boulders and beaches or at sea.
Offshore, the waters around Mull are home to a rich marine life including basking shark, minke whale, and dolphins such as common and bottlenose (and even, occasionally, Risso’s dolphin and orca).
