Located in the north of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the region of Ndutu lies in the annual migratory route of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and antelope who come to graze and calve between November and March, depending on the rains.

The forests around Lake Ndutu and small koppies are also home to prolific, resident wildlife including lion, cheetah, Thomson's gazelle and wildebeest. Bat-eared fox, striped hyena, caracal, serval and genet are also all possible.
