As part of Rewilding Argentina’s efforts to restore the country’s wild spaces, Parque Patagonia has had a remarkable resurgence, and is emerging as a fantastic destination for puma watching.

Located in the north-west of Santa Cruz Province along Argentina’s iconic Route 40, Parque Patagonia is a vast protected area within the Patagonian steppe, characterised by deep canyons, open plains, wetlands and glacially carved valleys. Covering more than 200,000 hectares, the park forms part of a large-scale conservation and rewilding initiative focused on protecting native ecosystems and wildlife in southern Patagonia.

These awe-inspiring landscapes are home to a wide range of native species, including Andean condor, Darwin’s rhea, huemul, Wolffsohn’s viscacha, pampas cat, Patagonian armadillo, Humboldt’s hog-nosed skunk, culpeo, grey fox, and endangered flora unique to the region. Extensive grasslands and ravines provide important ecological corridors, while the remote setting offers opportunities for wildlife observation in a largely untouched environment. This habitat also serves as a perfect location for great guanaco migrations, providing the pumas with ample prey.

In addition to its wildlife, the park contains a number of archaeological and cultural sites, including the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cueva de las Manos, which comprises ancient rock art dating back millenia.
