Combining wild scenery with urban life, Tromso is northern Norway’s largest city, lying nearly 70 degrees north and located between the peaks of the Lyngen Alps.

Tromso has four distinct seasons and is lucky enough to enjoy two natural phenomena’s every year. The summer brings the midnight sun and 24-hours of daylight, perfect conditions for hiking and exploring the fjords. Autumn is the start of the magical Aurora Borealis season and Tromso’s perfect location, in the centre of the northern lights oval, provides one of the highest possibilities of seeing the northern lights.

Depending on when you visit, you may see reindeer and moose. On boat trips it is not uncommon to see harbour seals, harbour porpoises and white-tailed eagles. Birdwatching is also popular, and you may see species such as puffins and storm petrels. During the winter, whales migrate towards the coast in search of herring.

Tromso offers a wide range of activities and has several sights of interest, including the Arctic Cathedral, Polaria, the Polar Museum and the Mack Brewery. The city is filled with life, there are plenty of wonderful cafés with freshly baked delights and excellent coffee, and further afield you can find an urban wilderness with mountains to explore.
