Immerse yourself in a tailormade South African holiday, staying in your preferred Sabi Sands lodge, viewing all manner of creatures, big and small, during twice daily vehicle safaris, night drives and bush walks. Fly on to the best Mozambique beaches for some R&R, customising your holiday with a beachside boutique lodge or a luxurious resort. Be sure to explore the idyllic Bazaruto Archipelago Marine National Park and if you time it right, you may even be able to enjoy a spot of whale watching!

On this fully customisable itinerary, it's possible to replace Sabi Sands with MalaMala Reserve or a plethora of other safari options across South or Southern Africa, should you wish. This itinerary is based on staying at Umkumbe Safari Lodge and Vilanculos Beach Lodge, however there are a range of accommodation options available - contact us to discuss your requirements.

Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Johannesburg.
  2. Day 2: Arrive in the Greater Kruger area and transfer to your lodge

You're met on arrival and transferred to your lodge in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, home for the next five nights.  After time to settle in, excitement levels will be high as you embark on your first safari this afternoon.

    Accommodation: Umkumbe Safari Lodge, 5-nights

  3. Days 3-6 : Explore Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Settle into life in the bush over the next four days. Maximise your wildlife viewing opportunities with early morning game drives, followed by brunch back at the lodge and possibly a bush walk. During the heat of the day, enjoy an armchair safari, relax, use the lodge facilities or indulge in a snooze before heading out again late afternoon. After sundowners, return to the lodge under cover of darkness, with all senses on full alert as this is a time when nocturnal predators such as lion, leopard and spotted hyena come to the fore. Round off each day with dinner under the Milky Way and a night cap around a fire. Perfection.
  4. Day 7: Fly to Johannesburg for an overnight stay

Time permitting, there may be one last opportunity to go on safari this morning before you transfer back to the airport and fly to Johannesburg for an overnight stay.

    Accommodation: The Safari Club, 1-night

  5. Day 8: Fly to Vilanculos

Safari completed, the beautiful beaches of Southern Mozambique await. On the mainland lies Vilanculos and, just offshore, the stunning Bazaruto Archipelago. Transfer by road or helicopter to your chosen accommodation … and relax!

    Accommodation: Vilanculos Beach Lodge, 5-nights

  6. Days 9-12 : Explore Vilanculos & the Bazaruto Archipelago

Although the powdery white sands and calm, azure waters of the Indian Ocean will undoubtedly be the star attractions, there’s plenty to see and do here if you wish to explore. Activities range from scuba diving to birding, and paddleboarding to sunset cruises. Stroll around the village of Vilanculos and visit its Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary. Day visits to the protected Bazaruto Archipelago are a must, and whale watching is possible between July and November.
  7. Day 13: Fly to Johannesburg and depart

As your holiday draws to a close, fly back to Johannesburg and connect overnight back to the UK.
  8. Day 14: Arrive UK

Please note: Whilst safaris can be enjoyed year round, life giving rains fall between November and April, with cloudbursts especially prevalent between January to March. For the beach element of your holiday especially, it's worth noting that the Bazaruto Archipelago tends to receive slightly less rainfall than Vilanculos on the mainland.
