The state-of-the-art Sylvia Earle is a bespoke, polar exploration vessel, designed to help raise awareness of critical conservation issues, whilst also highlighting the important work of pioneering female conservationists.
Sylvia Earle is named after one of the world’s foremost marine biologists and oceanographers. Designed with responsible travel at the forefront, she has been certified 100% carbon-neutral and boasts several key technological features such as virtual anchoring, ensuring minimal damage to the sea floor, plus a streamlined bow, which helps to reduce fuel consumption. Her inaugural Antarctic voyage in November 2022 heralded a new age of polar exploration, helping to raise important conservation issues and operating as a floating ambassador for our planet.
The latest inverted ULSTEIN X-BOW® design ensures greater stability in rough seas, allowing the Sylvia Earle to cut through the waves at speed. It also helps to reduce fuel consumption and minimise the ship’s environmental impact.
The Citizen Science Centre will appeal to passengers wishing to get involved with any of the research projects taking place during the voyage.
Plus, in addition to Sylvia Earle herself, six other pioneering female conservationists – Dr Carden Wallace AM, Joanna Ruxton, Sharon Kwok, Bernadette Demientieff, Dr Asha de Vos and Hanli Prinsloo – each have one of the ship’s public decks named after them.
Passengers will learn more about the inspiring work of these leading scientists, all of whom have dedicated their lives to improving and conserving our natural world.
Among the other onboard facilities that make travelling on the Sylvia Earle such a pleasurable experience, are a heated saltwater open-air swimming pool, jacuzzis and a wellness centre with sauna and gym.
In addition, optional adventure excursions such as kayaking, diving, climbing and ski touring, add to the experience of polar exploration.
