Wildlife Photography Holidays

On our wildlife photography trips, you have an opportunity to develop your technical skills through a series of informal workshops and tuition ‘in the field’. Suitable for all levels, the workshops cover a variety of photographic techniques and skills relevant to the subject matter and/or habitat. Our expert photographic leaders also offer one-to-one time and tuition, and the pace is such that there is ample time to get the most from the photographic potential of each location visited.

You can choose to join like-minded wildlife photographers on one of our small-group trips or arrange a tailor-made private itinerary to suit your requirements with private guidance from your chosen expert photography leader, should you wish. Wildlife Photography Experts

Accompanying each carefully-designed tour will be an experienced leader, who is also an acclaimed expert in their particular field. These include: BBC Wildlife Photographer of the year category winner Nick Garbutt (who leads a series of Nick Garbutt wildlife photography tours); award-winning broadcaster, photographer and zoologist Mark Carwardine; macro photography specialist Alex Hyde; as well as experienced wildlife photographers Bret Charman, Emma Healey and Sean Weekly. 

UK Photography Workshops & Trips

As part of our growing series of wildlife photography tours, we now offer a range of workshops closer to home, allowing you to learn the techniques and principles of a variety of photographic skills. Many of our workshops and trips are available on a private basis and we can tailor an itinerary to suit your exact requirements with a number of our expert photographic leaders. Our two-day bird photography workshop in Hampshire spends a day in a woodland bird hide capturing images of nuthatch, greater spotted woodpecker and kestrels, and another day in a kingfisher hide, photographing kingfishers in action by the pond.

Our Red Kite & Night Sky Workshop takes you to Elan Valley in Wales where you can capture stunning photographs of these striking birds of prey, and take part in some astrophotography.

Photograph the deer of the New Forest as we search for fallow and red deer, and maybe even roe, sika and muntjac.

Our Isle of Mull Wildlife Photography trip focuses on a variety of iconic bird and mammal species – including white-tailed sea eagles - and a superb variety of macro opportunities.

Nick Garbutt leads our Exmoor Wildlife & Night Sky Photography trip where our subjects are Exmoor ponies, red deer and the Dark Sky Reserve.

We offer an extensive range of worldwide photography trips to spectacular wildlife destinations. Whilst most of our trips are based on joining a small group of like-minded enthusiasts, our knowledgeable team of wildlife experts can also arrange a tailor-made photographic trip to any of our worldwide destinations - just contact our experts to arrange a tailored trip.

Our small group photography tours offer a wide range of photographic opportunities from leopards in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park to the diverse wildlife of Peru's Amazon rainforests, alternatively capture stunning images of Europe’s predators in the forests of Finland or the jaguars, giant river otters and birdlife of the Brazilian Pantanal on a unique tailor-made holiday.

Wildlife Safari Photography

We offer a selection of photography trips specifically designed for those wishing to focus on photography whilst on safari.

Timing is everything on trips to such locations as Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa or Brazil where the perfect photographic day starts before dawn, and ends from late afternoon until dusk, when the light is rich and warm. Your expert leader will be on hand to help you achieve the perfect image, be that predator, prey or stunning scenery.

Rainforest Photography

On Rainforest Photography trips to locations such as the Brazilian Pantanal, Borneo, the Andes & Amazon, Madagascar and Costa Rica there are specific skills to be acquired in order to get the best out of photographing wildlife in what is undoubtedly a challenging environment.

For example, whether day or night, using a flash appropriately is a key part of wildlife photography, as is keeping that all important equipment dry in a tropical rainforest!  Our expert photographers who accompany you are highly skilled in this and are always happy to share their top tips to help achieve the best results.

Macro Photography

Our macro photography workshops focus on bringing smaller subjects (insects, plants and fungi) to life through the lens within their unique landscapes, which usually go unnoticed. Choices include photographing fascinating insects in UK nature reserves, visiting the stunning south of England to photograph bizarre insects, and capturing close up images of colourful butterflies in Austria’s alpine meadows, all offering endless opportunities for close-up or macro photography. There are also plenty of macro wildlife opportunities to be had indoors and on our Bugs & Beasts photography workshop in Worcestershire, you can explore the world of lizards, snakes and spiders.

The basic principles of close-up photography are the same as all other forms of picture taking, however there are some techniques that our expert tour leaders will teach you on how to capture the perfect macro shot.

Photographic Hides

Many of our chosen locations are equipped with specialist photographic hides, carefully positioned to witness wildlife at close proximity, allowing you to capture intimate and unique images. Our particular favourites are shown below, however there are many more to choose from throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Some lodges and tented camps even have dedicated in-house naturalist photographers who are on hand to assist you to develop your skills. 

• Dedicated sunken photographic hides at Mashatu Lodge in Botswana, offering a unique perspective for wildlife photography.
• An exceptional eye-level hide at Onkolo, near Etosha National Park in Namibia, is open to guests staying in camps such as Onguma Tented Camp.
• Hippo, elephant and carmine bee-eater hides at Kaingo Camp in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park.
• Close-up views of elephants and leopards at hides at Luangwa Safari House, Tena Tena and Nsefu camps in the South Luangwa.
• An underground site at The Hide in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, where you can view the daily visitors to the camp at close quarters.
• Dedicated bird photography hides at Finca La Parrilla in Spain's stunning Extremadura region.
• Purpose-built bear photography hides at Martinselkonen Lodge in the Finnish wilderness in Finland for exceptional views of brown bears in the forest.
• A network of birdwatching and photography hides – permanent, mobile and even floating – are available on a private reserve in the heart of the Danube Delta.
• Viewing platforms and hides are strategically placed along the river at the Great Bear Lodge in Canada, perfect for the ultimate grizzly photograph.
